Hello Plutonians, get your dresses on because we're diving headfirst into a sugary-sweet, flamingo-filled LITERAL fever dream: the 1950s Pastel Kitsch Aesthetic!
Let's be frank, the 1950s were an extremely wild ride. Post-war optimism was slathered in a thick-thick layer of bright pink frosting, and most everyone was living in “the future”.
We're talking pencil skirts, cinched waist, the almost nostalgic chrome diners, and enough knick-knacks to be almost considered maximalism.. Seriously, though, are you even living if your house doesn't have a ceramic lamb plant pot or a salt-and-pepper shaker shaped like a silly anthropomorphic human or animal?

The Fabulous Color Palette
Forget your nasty cream colors and your black & white, we are talking about:
Pink
Mint Green
Baby Blue
Lemon Yellow
Coral
Why is it charming and WHY are we talking about this?
It's the sheer unironic enthusiasm for consumerism. While it's a beautiful aesthetic, it spearheaded a horrible problem in the United States. After the war, we experienced a huge boom in our economy, and we well, began mass production. These items hold a special place in people's hearts, including mine, but there is an unnecessary need to push products and make more products than what sells. While these items held a lot of unique designs, over the years, mass production has dwindled in creativity and uniqueness. It makes products less valuable and less charming. I guess that's why these almost borderline fever dream items make me smile, it takes you back to a time of sheer wonder and optimism for the USA, and the 1950s weren't afraid to be a little… eerm….weird. They embraced the novelty, the fun, and the downright silly-goofy. Living in a space with this aesthetic is like a hug from a super supportive friend.
So I encourage you to find your inner silly-goofy and never let anyone knock your style. Especially if this is your style!!
Remember, in the world of kitsch, everything is cute, including YOU!
